Update on QOC 2012 Tour (March 2012) – North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales Tour

Dates are – Starting Sunday 17th June – Finishing Saturday 23rd June

I have managed to negotiate group rates at two suitably located hotels one in a small market town on North York Moors and the second on the outskirts of Skipton (gateway to the Dales). The total cost for 6 nights dinner bed and breakfast on a shared twin/double room basis will be £350 per person and this will also include at least the cost to two visitor attractions.

The first three nights are at The George and Dragon Hotel a 17th century coaching inn in the centre of a small market town on the North York Moors.    www.georgeanddragon.net

The last three nights are at Rendezvous Hotel a modern hotel on the outskirts of Skipton (but only 15/20 minutes walk along canal side to town centre)

Both hotels are ideally located for great days out driving and visiting the many places of interest.

I have the accommodation reserved at these preferential rates. I now need to have firm commitment ASAP to enable me to go back to the hotels and confirm numbers. To this end the club needs a £30 deposit each person to secure places.

Please make cheques out to Quantum Owners Club and post to me at:-

Either way please Email or Phone to confirm (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone 01423 862913). There are limited rooms particularly at the George and Dragon so the sooner I can have confirmation the better.

NB – if you prefer to only do 3 nights at one location only then that’s fine just confirm which. £30 deposit will still be required but the total cost will be 50% of £350.

DAY  1 -  Sunday 17th June – Arrive at the George and Dragon late afternoon where we stay for 3 nights. Meet up with other club members hand out more detailed itinerary try to answer any queries, settle into Hotel and then evening meal at 7pm.

NOTE -  Sunday 17th June - this is the same weekend as Newark Kit Car show so those attending the show can then head north on Sunday morning. My idea is to meet at the north side of HumberBridge about 12.30pm then I will lead a drive over the Yorkshire Wolds (now made famous by artist Hockney) to Kirbymoorside .

DAY  2 – Drive over the Yorkshire Moors to the Moors National Park Visitor centre at Danby where you will be able to get to know a lot more about the area together with various exhibitions, tea room and short walks available. Then drive to Whitby for lunch of your choice, I will lead optional walk around the old town area taking in snickleways and ginnels to give a feel of the historic harbour and fishing town. Set off back to hotel taking in Goathland (made famous in TV programme Heartbeat).

DAY  3 – Head for the coast at Robin Hood’s Bay. Leave in time to drive down the coast to arrive in Scarborough for lunch and time to explore Scarborough’s North and SouthBays. Then on the way back to the hotel option to visit RydaleFolkMuseum at Hutton-Le-Hole or Pickering and its steam trains.

DAY  4 – Leave George and Dragon hotel to visit North Yorkshire Motor Museum in Thornton-le-Dale then morning drive taking in Helmsley and Sutton Bank before arriving in the historic market/castle town of Knaresborough for lunch. Head on towards the Yorkshire Dales arriving at the Rendezvous Hotel Skipton mid afternoon to enjoy the spa facilities or explore Skipton town.

DAY  5 – Head north via Malham Cove, Ribble Head and its famous railway viaduct to Hawes where we will visit Wensleydale Creamery and visitors centre then having time to explore Hawes and grab some lunch. Off again and over into Swaledale via Muker, Gunnerside, Grinton and then back into Wenslydale to see Aysgarth force before drive back via Buckden and Kettlewell.

DAY  6 – Drive over to Masham to visit the famous brewery (choice of two and need another visit to both before I decide which is best} via Burnsall, PateleyBridge and Lofthouse. Lunch in Masham then gentle drive back for final night at the Rendezvous Hotel.

DAY  7 – Saturday 23rd June -  All say goodbye and make our way home.

NOTE – The overall mileage will be around 550 miles.

To date there are 10 cars and 17 members with firm commitment and there          is still time to book a place.
